Fourth Grade

 February - March 

We are well into our 3^rd quarter and our 4^th graders are making amazing progress this year!

 On February 19^th and 20^th we went to the Planetarium.  This was an exciting trip where students  used the stars to travel the Underground Railroad.  In Social Studies we are studying the wars and Maryland’s role in each war.  We are studying the American Revolution, War of 1812, and Civil War.  Check out these cool websites!

           In Science we are studying rocks and minerals.  Students are looking at identifying sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rocks and characteristics of each.

 In Math, we are being introduced to brand new strategies in 4^th grade.  Students are dividing 2 and 3 digit numbers using partial quotients strategy and standard algorithm.  We are continuing to work on elapsed time, adding and subtracting fractions, and probability.  These are some neat games you can play at home to help with these skills.

 Important Reminders!!!

 ·        Reading logs are due at the end of each month.  Students are working towards an end of the year field trip

·        Many students are out sick during the winter.  It is very important that your child is here every day that they are able.  If you know your child is going to be out, please call the school so that we can send work home for your child.
